Bel Soggiorno - Taormina

What did we like about Bel Soggiorno? - The stunning panoramic sea views from our terrace. - It's location out of the main tourist drag, upon where thousands are bused in every day. - The breakfast was sublime. - The staff, in particular Dominique we're so friendly and really looked after us well. - The Hotel itself is 100 years old, and retains its charm and authenticity to the region it is in. - If it's a relaxing, peaceful trip you are after, I recommend this place all day long. Be sure to ask for a room on the top floor. Pay the extra for a terrace.

- No pool, but actually we never really missed it. - To walk from the hotel to the town centre is about 5-10min but all uphill. Think twice if you think you would find this difficult to do each day.

It is a pretty old hotel (probably of the beginning of the 20th century) settled in a very beautiful garden in cliff offering a magnificent view on the bay of Taormina. We adored this place, as well as the kindness of the staff, in spite of some negative points mentioned below. The hotel offers a free parking, which is essential in summer. Our room had a fantastic view on the bay and on Etna volcano. It was pretty small with a very high ceiling, a toilet block seeming to date the 70s without being dilapidated, the air conditioning worked correctly. The hotel is well enough situated with regard to the tourist zone of Taormina provided you do not mind walking 15 in 20 minutes along rather stiff streets and stairs. A cable car, within 20 walking minutes from the hotel, will take you to the beach area, 250 m below.

The common parts of the hotel, particularly the lounge and the veranda where is served the breakfast, are not air-conditioned, what makes that in the middle of summer it is painful to stay there after 10 am in the morning (we had 35 ° C during the three days of our stay) while the Wi-Fi works only here (and not in the rooms). The free parking is actually the hotel driveway, which is narrow, sloping and with a sharp turn in the middle. Parking is challenging, especially with a long car. The staff of the hotel is aware of the problem and proposes all the possible help.

I thought the hotel was very charming, comfortable and the view could not have been better. It was amazing! The rooms were large and well appointed. The breakfast dining area was lovely. I loved it there! It was an easy 10 minute walk to the center of town, but for me, nice not to stay in the town. The views were just spectular!

Stunning location with seaview from balcony of room. Nice breakfast room/sunroom for breakfast and even nicer small outside terrace where we had breakfast.. Free onsite parking . Short walk up steps to old town centre.

Beautiful views of Etna and easy walk into the centre of Taormina. Very friendly staff and delicious breakfast.

Parking is definitely a challenge but the receptionist helped us.

This is a charming old style hotel set in a wonderful location below the beautiful town of Taormina but perched high up on a cliff with wonderful sea views. The main areas have high ceilings and large windows and the terrace where breakfast is served is delightful. Evening drinks are served by Carmelita with the perfect amount of charm and service.

the room were very spartan, the air condition was not working in the first room, so we had to move. the walk to the center of Taormina...

Masses of old world Italian charm. Incredible views of Etna and the sea. Lots of interesting terraces. Large rooms with views. Good bathrooms. Delightful staff.

No pool.

This charming hotel offered everything we were looking for while staying in Taormina. It is located beside downtown and above the wonderful Isola Bella beach (we rather exercised a long stairway instead of a convenient cable way). It is seated on the top of a hill with an amazing view of the Mediterranean sea. Laid on our chaise longue in the balcony, we watched the moonlight shining on the ocean every night. The assorted breakfast, offering juices of local fruits, prosciutto crudo, Italian tomato salad, homemade breads, among other things, was enjoyed outdoors with a view to the sea. The courtesy of his owner and the staff, specially the kindness of Mr. Sebastiano, was delightful. Thanks to Hotel Bel Soggiorno, our stay was romantic and unforgettable.

Hotel Bel Soggiorno was a great find! Really good value for money. The scenes from the balcony were breathtaking and it was overall a beautiful setting. Really enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace. Only wish we could have stayed here longer!

Good location not too far from restaurants and shopping. Nice breakfast on the patio.

Many adult tourists didn't seem to tolerate our children very well.

The hotel had a very uplifting feel as it was perched on the cliffs overlooking the ocean below Taormina. Breakfast is also served on the terrace which was large and very bright with the morning sun coming in. The dining/bar/entertainment area had an older style grandness to it. I felt like I was staying in a hotel that an old James Bond movie may have been filmed in. I also enjoyed being able to fall asleep with our balcony doors open listening to the gentle sounds of the Ionian sea a hundred feet below. Free wifi was available as well as two workstations in the dining room that could be used any time by guests.

The shower was quite small (but I managed) and there was no minibar that can sometimes come in handy for keeping things in. The hotel night staff however brought sparkling water to our room late at night when we forgot to buy some. But the good outweighs the bad at this hotel.

Outstanding location with the feeling you are in an Italian villa on the sea. Panoramic view of the coast with Mt Etna in the distance. The gardens are beautiful and well tended,the staff cordial and helpful. Room is adequate with low pressure in the shower and water on the tepid side..and walk into town can be arduous if not prepared for many uphill steps. Parking is tight but somehow works!! I would certainly revisit and recommend this hotel to all who enjoy sublime, quiet moments.

We really loved this hotel, we are frequent visitors to Taormina but this was our first stay here. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and spoke excellant English. The views from our room, which had a large terrace were out of this world. I love the location, just a 10 minute walk to the centre, passing beautiful public gardens on the way. The hotel is also set in its own gardens and the attention to detail and maintenance of them was very noticeable. With free parking, wifi and a delicious breakfast included I highly recommend this hotel.

I like the whole feel of this hotel. Family owned and operated for a long time and they know how to be gracious hosts. The public spaces are lovely and I found it to be much quieter than other higher priced hotels nearby. Pay the little extra for a view on Etna!

This is an older property so there are a few issues--smallish bathrooms in some rooms and an slight odor in some rooms--- but it is still very good value for taormina.
